Key Responsibilities of the Legal Project Manager

• Shape matter plans and budgets - Prepare scope, staffing and fee proposals at the outset of major matters and track delivery against them throughout.
• Drive day-to-day matter delivery - Coordinate workstreams, timetables, actions and progress reporting across several concurrent deal and disputes teams.
• Manage risk and financial performance - Anticipate risks such as competing deadlines or capability gaps, monitor spend and manage scope changes to protect profitability.
• Partner with lawyers and clients - Act as a trusted adviser to partners and clients, presenting delivery approaches clearly, facilitating workshops and supporting pitches.
• Champion technology and improvement - Promote legal technology and smarter ways of working, encouraging colleagues at every level to adopt more efficient practices.

Skills & Attributes of the Legal Project Manager

• Proven project management background - Experience delivering complex projects within professional services, a matrix organisation or a top-tier law firm.
• Influential stakeholder manager - Confident building credible relationships with senior lawyers, business leaders and clients, and persuading them to adapt.
• Commercial and analytical mindset - A logical, structured problem-solver with a firm grasp of budgets, resourcing and matter economics.
• Recognised qualification welcomed - A project management certification such as APM or PRINCE2 is desirable but not essential, with further study supported.
