Job summary

EDF Energy seeks a qualified solicitor to provide commercial, regulatory and regulatory health & safety support within Nuclear Operations. You will draft and negotiate contracts, advise on complex issues, and manage disputes, with collaboration across EDF Group.

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor with eligibility to practise in England/Wales and Scotland.
• At least 12 months post-qualification experience.
• Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial and contract agreements.
• Experience managing or advising on litigation and disputes.
• Knowledge of property, health & safety and regulatory law.
• Strong commercial judgement and practical advice.
• Ability to manage multiple matters and priorities.
• Collaborative mindset and team support.

Responsibilities

• Provide timely, practical legal advice across commercial and regulatory matters for Nuclear Operations.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial, construction, property and project-related contracts.
• Advise on regulatory, health & safety and compliance issues.
• Support disputes, claims and litigation from start to finish.
• Coordinate with external law firms as needed and manage matters end-to-end.
• Keep ahead of legal developments and interpret implications for the business.

Job description

At EDF, Success is Personal . As Legal Counsel within Nuclear Operations, youll use your legal expertise to support one of the UKs most important energy businesses, working across complex commercial, regulatory and operational matters that genuinely make an impact.

The Opportunity

This is a broad and varied role. You could be advising on a commercial contract one day, supporting a regulatory or health and safety matter the next, or helping the business navigate a dispute or complex property issue.

Youll work closely with colleagues across Nuclear Operations and the wider EDF Group, providing pragmatic, commercially focused advice that helps the business make confident decisions and manage risk effectively.

The role is based at Gloucester Business Park, with Monday and Tuesday as our regular on-site days , giving you the opportunity to work closely with the team in person while benefiting from flexibility across the rest of the week. Travel to other EDF UK locations may be required depending on business needs, with occasional travel within Europe., Youll have the opportunity to get involved in a genuinely diverse range of legal work, including:

• Providing timely, practical and commercially focused legal advice across Nuclear Operations
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial, construction, property and project-related contracts
• Advising on regulatory, health & safety and compliance matters
• Supporting the business with the prevention and management of disputes, claims and litigation
• Managing legal matters from start to finish, including instructing and overseeing external law firms where appropriate
• Keeping ahead of legal and regulatory developments and helping colleagues understand what changes mean for the business
• Working collaboratively with other lawyers and stakeholders across EDF to find solutions to complex challenges

• To be a qualified solicitor with the relevant qualifications to practise in England/Wales and Scotland
• At least 12 months post-qualification experience , so this role is not suitable for newly qualified solicitors
• Experience across commercial and contract law , including drafting and negotiating agreements
• Experience managing or advising on litigation and disputes
• Knowledge or experience within areas such as property, health & safety and regulatory law
• Strong commercial judgement and the ability to turn complex legal issues into clear, practical advice
• Confidence managing multiple matters and priorities at the same time
• A collaborative mindset , with a genuine willingness to share workload, support others and contribute to the wider team
