A global retail innovation group is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel & Collections Executive in London. This role entails overseeing legal operations, compliance, and collections processes, with a focus on contract law and financial flow management. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in legal counsel and be familiar with UK, EU, and US legal frameworks. Smartech Retail Group is a global destination for innovation, delivering immersive retail experiences across concept stores worldwide. We showcase the latest in gaming, e-mobility, and cutting-edge technology, giving customers a hands-on experience of the future. In partnership with Oddwork, we’re looking for a proactive Legal Counsel & Collections Executive to take ownership of our legal operations, compliance and collections processes, and help build the legal and operational foundations that support our continued global growth.
As Legal Counsel & Collections Executive
This is not a single-track role; it blends legal expertise, financial acumen and operational support. As our sole in-house legal expert, you’ll oversee contract law, compliance, cross-border regulations and legal disputes. You’ll also own our collections and receivables processes, ensuring timely payments and strong financial flow. You’ll work closely with our Business Development team, providing the legal and operational backbone that keeps our brand relationships smooth, structured, and scalable.
Acting as the company’s sole legal counsel, providing strategic guidance on contracts, compliance and cross-border legal matters
Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of legal documents, including NDAs, brand agreements and service contracts
Managing all aspects of collections and debt recovery, including invoicing, tracking outstanding payments and liaising with stakeholders
Supporting the Business Development team with contract negotiation points, legal templates and onboarding documentation
Leading improvements in debtor management, payment systems and operational efficiency across legal and financial functions
Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure risk mitigation, policy adherence and scalable legal operations
Maintaining and optimising internal systems such as Xero, Monday.com and Google Sheets to streamline brand income tracking and compliance workflows
You’re a sharp legal mind with a commercial edge, equal parts strategist, problem solver and operator. With experience in legal counsel, contract negotiation or debt management, you know how to balance legal precision with business pragmatism. You move confidently between legal frameworks in the UK, EU and US, and you’re not afraid to take ownership, drive decisions and challenge the status quo. Analytical yet hands-on, you thrive in fast-paced environments where structure meets scale. Whether it’s drafting a watertight agreement, navigating a compliance issue or chasing down a late payment, you do it with confidence, clarity and a steady hand.
You hold a law degree and have at least 5 years’ experience within legal counsel, commercial contracts or debt recovery
You have a strong track record of managing commercial agreements, legal disputes and compliance matters, backed by solid knowledge of UK, EU and US legal frameworks.
You’re confident working independently and thrive in hybrid roles that combine legal, finance and operational support
You’re structured, strategic and proactive, with a hands-on approach to solving legal and financial challenges
You bring experience in supporting business development teams with legal advice and scalable process improvements
You’re comfortable using tools like Xero, Google Sheets and Monday.com to track, manage and streamline operations
