Job description
Freelance Legal Content Writer (Corporate Law)
About the role

We’re looking for a qualified corporate solicitor to work with our marketing team on a freelance basis. Your role will be to provide a legal accuracy review (‘sanity check’) of content produced by our marketing team.

You’ll ensure that our FAQ content relating to corporate law is legally sound, up to date with current legislation and case law, and reflects best practice under English law.

This is a flexible, freelance role that can fit around existing commitments. Work is project-based and can be carried out remotely.

About Harper James

Harper James is a growing and ambitious commercial law firm like no other. Forget any misconceptions you may have about the legal industry, we're not stuffy or inhibited by traditions.

Founded in 2014, our purpose is as strong now as it was then - to enable growth-oriented businesses to succeed through delivering top-quality and accessible legal services by acting as partners in our clients’ journeys while our people enjoy a true work‑life balance.

Harper James continues to grow at c40%+ year on year. This year, more than 140 people will support 4000+ businesses and we expect to double our turnover over the next two years.

What you’ll do
  • Reviewing marketing‑drafted content for legal accuracy, clarity and completeness.
  • Ensuring content aligns with current corporate law and reflects realistic legal processes and timescales.
  • Providing concise feedback and suggested amendments to improve legal precision and consistency of tone.
  • Flagging any statements or claims that could be misleading or require further qualification.
  • Supporting the marketing team by identifying areas that need further legal context or explanation.
  • Suggesting updates or topics where the law has recently changed or guidance is evolving.
  • Collaborating with our marketing and editorial team to ensure published materials remain compliant with our internal quality standards and style guide.
Requirements for the role
  • Qualification as a solicitor in England and Wales, with 5+ years’ PQE in corporate law.
  • Strong understanding of UK company law, corporate transactions, shareholders’ agreements, and governance.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to explain legal concepts clearly and succinctly.
  • A practical, commercial mindset – able to balance legal accuracy with readability for a non‑legal audience.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently to tight deadlines.
  • Experience of reviewing copy would be an advantage.
  • Comfortable using track changes and working collaboratively in shared documents (MS Word).
Working with us
  • Location: Remote, UK‑based.
  • Engagement: Freelance, project‑based.
  • Hours: Flexible depending on workflow; typically 5‑10 hours per month or as agreed.
  • Rate: Competitive, commensurate with experience.

You’ll join a growing roster of experienced solicitors supporting Harper James’ content marketing team. You’ll be trusted to apply your expertise with autonomy, ensuring our published content continues to reflect the high standards of accuracy and professionalism expected from a national commercial law firm.
