About the Opportunity

A fast‑growing, owner‑managed group of businesses within the specialist automotive sector is seeking an experienced Legal Cashier to join their large finance team on a fixed‑term maternity cover contract. The client expects a permanent offer of employment to be made at the end of the initial contract. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, has a strong eye for detail, and enjoys working with both finance and legal teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform daily bank reconciliations for both client and office accounts
  • Accurately identify, allocate and record all office and client receipts
  • Process supplier invoices and expenses into Sage, ensuring correct coding and authorisation
  • Carry out monthly supplier statement reconciliations
  • Process staff expense claims in line with company policy
  • Review, post and reconcile counsel fees and anticipated disbursements
  • Prepare and issue disbursement and fee bills
  • Complete weekly and monthly medical reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
Reporting & Compliance
  • Produce monthly nominal ledger reports for senior stakeholders
  • Assist with the annual SRA audit and liaise with external auditors
  • Ensure all financial transactions comply with Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR) and internal finance controls
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle client and financial data professionally
  • Support with ad hoc financial reporting and data analysis as required
Operational & Administrative Support
  • Monitor and manage the finance inbox, responding to queries promptly
  • Carry out daily banking and associated administrative tasks
  • Support case handlers and the legal team with financial queries
  • Assist the Group Finance Manager with ad hoc tasks and project work
Skills & Experience
Essential:
  • Proven experience working within a finance department
  • High level of accuracy and excellent attention to detail
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage high workloads
  • Confident communicator with the ability to liaise across all levels
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Professional and discreet when handling confidential information
Desirable:
  • Previous experience in a Legal Cashier or legal finance role
  • Working knowledge of Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR)
  • Experience using Sage – ideally Sage Intacct
  • Experience supporting SRA audits and working with auditors
  • AAT qualification – desirable
