Job summary

Age UK is seeking a Legal Adviser to provide timely, compliant legal guidance across the charity group. You will work both as an individual contributor and within a legal team, supporting internal clients and advising on commercial contracts, fundraising and data protection matters.

You must be admitted to practice in England and Wales with a current practising certificate. The role supports a hybrid model with regular London office days; travel to the London office is not covered by the charity.

Job description

Are you a solutions-focused legal professional looking to use your expertise to make a meaningful impact? Age UK is looking for a skilled Legal Adviser to help ensure that we continue delivering trusted, compliant and effective services for older people across the UK.

As a Legal Adviser at Age UK, you will provide advice, assistance and guidance to all parts of the Age UK Group that is timely, solutions focused and legally compliant. You will act as both an individual contributor and as part of a team - working closely with the Head of Legal and Governance and other members of the legal team to provide an effective and appropriate legal service to internal clients, identifying any areas for concern and potential improvement and making contributions to the development of the organisation.

You must be admitted and qualified to practice law in England and Wales, holding a current practising certificate to be considered for this opportunity.

We operate a hybrid-working model, a blend of home and office working. This role will include regular days working from our London office (minimum once per week.) Your travel costs to the London office are not covered by the charity.

Must haves:

Experience

• Considerable demonstrable experience in a commercial or similar in-house/private practice role. (A, I)
• Considerable demonstrable experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, grants, commercial participator and fundraising agreements. (A, P, I)
• Significant post qualification (see qualification requirement below) experience. (A, I)

Skills and knowledge

• Admitted and qualified (with excellent academic credentials) to practice law in England and Wales, holding a current practising certificate. (A, I)
• Expertise in commercial law, including advising on fundraising and grant related contracts and dada protection law. (A,P,I)
• Excellent writing skills in English. (A)
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers. (A,I)
