Job description

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with expertise in cognitive and biological Psychology to programme lead the BSc (Hons) Psychology due to be launched in September 2025. You will have the opportunity to support the success and future growth of the psychology provision, including the development and validation of postgraduate provisions.

Responsibilities and Qualifications
  • Aspire to ensure the continuous improvement of the student experience, teaching and learning excellence, and develop relationships with the relevant professional bodies to support curriculum endorsement and accreditation (British Psychological Society).
  • Demonstrate specialist knowledge and experience within cognitive and biological psychology.
  • Contribute to Research and Knowledge Exchange (RKE) activities, including potential income generation, to support institutional output and impact plans and ensure the development of a research-informed curriculum.

    Hartpury's 2030 strategic focus is on continuing to build a reputation for excellence across our academic provision and associated RKE activities. We have recently undergone a restructure which has created two schools, each housing separate departments. Whilst priorities vary, there is full alignment with the 2030 strategy across all areas. The Department of Applied Sport and Psychology is home to our well-established sports coaching, sports education, sport performance curriculum and in September 2026 we will be launching a brand-new provision in psychology, with a BSc (Hons) psychology and BSc (Hons) Psychology with sport and exercise perspectives.

  • Have experience of teaching and supervising student research projects in higher education in the BPS core areas of cognitive and biological psychology. The ability to teach research methods would also be advantageous.
  • Have experience of conducting practical work in psychology labs, notably within cognitive and biological psychology.
  • Hold an undergraduate degree in psychology and have Graduate Basis for Chartered membership.
  • Hold a PhD in Psychology and be HCPC registered as a practitioner psychologist.
  • Have a higher education teaching qualification or professional recognition (e.g. FHEA/SFHEA or equivalent) or a commitment to complete one within one year.
  • As an active researcher conduct applied research projects that lead to impactful outputs in cognitive and biological psychology.
  • Build private and public sector networks and work collaboratively to enhance the reputation of Hartpury University in higher education and occupational circles.
