Brockenhurst College has an opportunity for a Lecturer in Graphics and Illustration to join their dedicated and enthusiastic team on a part time basis. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £33,367 - £44,365 pro‑rata per annum DOE. (Unqualified teachers £26,436 to £33,367 pro‑rata per annum.)

We are a high‑achieving college who attract around 2,800 sixth‑form students across the region each year. We are based within the stunning New Forest National Park and offer our students a huge range of courses and superb facilities.

About the role :

As the Lecturer in Graphics and Illustration you will continually improve the learning experience and achievement of students through effective teaching.

Responsibilities as our Lecturer in Graphics and Illustration will include :
  • Teaching on courses as agreed with the Head of Curriculum – CTEC Level 2 Art and Design alongside life drawing and digital illustration enrichments, although courses may be subject to change within Art and Design.
  • Provide pastoral support where required.
  • Acting as Course Leader, when requested.
  • Preparing and marking student work, monitoring progress towards individual targets, keeping records and providing timely reports / reviews to students, parents, employers and College managers, as appropriate.
  • Working closely with other colleagues to respond to the needs of students.
  • Paying due attention to the principles of inclusive learning including:
  • Individual learning styles.
  • Support for students with learning difficulties and disabilities.
  • Extension resources / activities for students of higher ability;
  • General resources, including the use of Information Learning Technology.
  • Contributing to the design, delivery and future planning and development of the curriculum.
  • Contributing to the teaching / learning resource bank for the relevant subject / course.
  • Maintain an up‑to‑date knowledge of developments in the relevant subject / course.
  • Developing and maintaining effective external links related to the delivery of the subject / course and representing the College at relevant meetings.
  • Organise and participate in relevant visits, field trips, etc.
  • Attend and contribute to relevant meetings, including Enrolment / Open Events and Parents’ Evening, as appropriate.
  • Advise and assist the Head of Department and other team members in all matters related to the delivery of subject specialisms.
  • Participate, as a team member, in the development of teaching methods and strategies towards an ethos of continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the self‑assessment process and take responsibility for relevant actions and targets in the development plan for the curriculum area.
  • Participate in the College’s Lesson Observation Scheme.
  • Undertake professional development and training to contribute to individual and College development.
  • Undertake such duties as may be reasonably requested from time to time.
As our Lecturer in Graphics and Illustration, you’ll ideally have :
  • A Degree or equivalent professional qualification in the relevant subject area.
  • Appropriate teacher training qualification (or working towards this).
  • Excellent teaching skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Art & Design Theory, knowledge and delivery of theoretical units on vocational programme essentials.
  • High level practical skills in the areas of Photography.
  • Able to develop effective learning resources.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current developments in the Photography area.
  • Knowledge of appropriate health and safety requirements.
  • Supportive and positive approach to teaching.
  • Empathy with and a strong commitment to meeting the needs of individual students.
