About Arden University:

We are an aspirational and multi-award-winning university, delivering rapid growth with ambitious plans to disrupt the HE sector through our passion for innovation and digital education. Our vision is to become the first-choice university for career-focused lifelong learners worldwide, ensuring that everyone, everywhere can access higher education, by leading the thoughtful integration of AI into teaching and learning and equipping our students to thrive in an AI-enabled world.

There has never been a more exciting time to join Arden University, as we expand into new disciplines, forge worldwide partnerships, and expand our locations.

About our School of Foundation Year - Social Sciences and Applied Technology

This School plays a vital role in helping students take their first steps into higher education, building the confidence, knowledge and academic skills needed to succeed on their chosen degree programme.

Our Foundation Year programmes prepare students for progression onto a wide range of undergraduate courses across the Social Sciences and STEM disciplines, including Law, Criminology, Psychology and Computing. Through engaging and inclusive teaching, students develop essential skills in academic writing, research, critical thinking, communication and analysis, providing a strong foundation for success at university and beyond.

You’ll join a passionate and supportive academic community committed to widening participation, student success and transforming lives through education. We pride ourselves on creating opportunities for students from diverse educational and professional backgrounds, helping them realise their potential and thrive in higher education.

It’s an exciting time to join Arden as we continue to grow our Foundation Year provision and explore innovative approaches to teaching and learning, including the opportunities presented by AI in education.

I think this reads much more naturally for a Law advert because it describes the School as a whole, rather than trying to explain a pathway that may not actually exist. It also avoids listing subjects in a way that makes Law feel like just one option among many.

About the Opportunity:

This is an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer to play a key role in supporting students at the start of their higher education journey, helping them develop the academic confidence, critical thinking and legal awareness needed to progress successfully onto undergraduate study.

We are looking for candidates with an undergraduate degree in Law (LLB or equivalent) and a genuine commitment to widening participation and student success. Whether your background is in higher education teaching, legal practice, or learner support, you’ll be passionate about helping students from diverse backgrounds realise their potential and achieve their academic goals.

The role combines teaching, academic support and student success activities, with a particular focus on developing students’ academic skills, confidence and readiness for degree-level study.

The position includes approximately 16 hours of teaching per week (across four student groups), alongside tutorials, assessment support, office hours and wider student engagement activities. You will be expected to attend campus 3-4 days per week, in line with teaching timetables and student needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver engaging, inclusive and student-centred teaching both face-to-face and online across Foundation Year modules.

  • Create supportive learning environments that encourage participation, confidence and academic development.

  • Provide high-quality academic support through tutorials, office hours and one-to-one guidance.

  • Act as a module leader where required, ensuring the quality, consistency and continuous improvement of learning materials and schemes of work.

  • Design, deliver and assess authentic assessments, providing timely, constructive and developmental feedback.

  • Support students in developing core academic skills, including critical thinking, research, analysis, academic writing and independent learning.

  • Identify and proactively support students who may be at risk of disengagement or non-submission through targeted interventions and follow-up activities.

  • Deliver assessment support sessions, tutorials, assessment clinics and resit support workshops.

  • Contribute to curriculum enhancement and the ongoing development of innovative teaching, learning and assessment practices.

  • Develop engaging digital learning resources, including interactive activities, videos, podcasts and online learning materials.

  • Support student induction, orientation and welcome activities, both online and on campus.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across the School to enhance student engagement, retention and progression.

  • Act as a Personal Academic Coach (PAC), supporting students throughout their academic journey and helping them achieve their full potential.

This role offers a genuine opportunity to make a lasting impact, helping students build the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to succeed in higher education and progress onto undergraduate Law programmes and beyond.

About You:

You understand the challenges that can impact student engagement and success in higher education and are passionate about helping students develop the confidence, skills and knowledge needed to thrive. You’ll be a supportive and student-focused educator who can create an inclusive learning environment and engage learners from a wide range of backgrounds.

We are looking for candidates with an undergraduate degree in Law (LLB or equivalent) and demonstrable experience of teaching Law at an appropriate level. Experience of teaching Foundation Year, academic skills or first-year undergraduate students would be advantageous.

  • Experience teaching Law within Higher Education, Further Education or a professional learning environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students from diverse backgrounds.

  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) and a commitment to enhancing teaching practice.

Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Master's degree in Law or a related discipline.

  • Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) qualification or other relevant professional legal qualification.

  • Experience teaching Foundation Year, Access to HE or academic skills provision.
