Role Overview

The University of Cumbria is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Film & Television to join our dynamic and growing Media Arts team. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional filmmaker or screenwriter – whether you are an established academic or an industry practitioner looking to move into higher education. The post-holder will contribute to teaching, supervision, and module leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Short film production and cinematic storytelling
  • Professional scriptwriting and story development
  • Associated TV production modules
  • Screen narrative teaching across other creative programmes, including Animation & VFX, Games Design, and Wildlife Media
Qualifications
  • Proven industry experience in directing and/or screenwriting (with recognised credits or professional track record)
  • Strong knowledge of production practice and workflows in film and television
  • Enthusiasm for teaching and mentoring emerging filmmakers, with the ability to communicate expertise to students at different levels of study
  • Academic experience in HE (teaching, curriculum design, or research) is desirable; applications from industry practitioners keen to transition into teaching and academic life are also welcomed
