Derwentside College’s Engineering Department has developed long‑standing partnerships with several leading engineering employers in the North East. As such, we are fortunate enough to be training some of the region’s most talented trainee engineers within our brand new advanced manufacturing workshop and testing areas.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to teach and assess students in our Engineering Department.

The ideal candidate will have hands‑on project experience, proficiency in CAD (specifically SolidWorks), and expertise in turning/lathe operations. The ideal candidate will have a track record of excellence in teaching that will allow you to deliver Advanced Manufacturing Engineering up to Levels 4 or 5. You will be qualified to this level or above and possess industry experience that enables you to contextualise your teaching with specific examples. You will be able to evidence professional development that gives you currency in the sector. Strong communication and organisational skills, along with the ability to inspire and motivate students, are essential.

What you will do
  • Deliver engaging and effective lessons in engineering subjects, assess student performance and provide constructive feedback;
  • Develop and implement curriculum plans, guide students through practical projects and ensure they gain hands‑on experience;
  • Utilise SolidWorks for CAD instruction and project development;
  • Teach and supervise turning/lathe operations;
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of industry standards and practices;
  • Share your skills and knowledge, develop (and support) high levels of student retention and attendance;
  • Provide pastoral care and administer necessary teaching responsibilities.

Compensation and working conditions

This post attracts a recruitment and retention premium with a salary up to £39,727 per annum. This is a permanent, full or part time post and the starting salary will depend upon an individual’s level of experience. Regional travel will be required and you must use your own transport, have a current valid driving license and business insurance.
