Job description
Overview

Permanent, Full Time

Merton College is seeking an experienced Electrical Installation lecturer to deliver outstanding quality in teaching, learning, assessment, and tutorial support to students, to maximise achievement and continuous improvement. You’ll play a key role in supporting the development of the curriculum, with employer engagement, and learner skills development.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Act as a Course Leader and Academic Tutor, creating and implementing innovative teaching, learning, and assessment and delivering teaching and assessment activities within own area of specialism including lectures, setting/marking coursework, practicals, and field work to undergraduates and postgraduates.
  • Support the development of the curriculum, employer engagement, and learner skills development.
  • Work under pressure and to strict validating body deadlines and provide evidence of assessment for Moderation.
  • Support and tutor learners, maintaining good-to-outstanding teaching, learning, assessment and tracking.
  • Work a minimum of 2 evenings per week teaching part time courses to Adults (Friday given in lieu during term time as remission).
Qualifications and Experience
  • Hold a teaching qualification (or working towards).
  • Qualified to a minimum of L3 in Electrical Installation.
  • Recent teaching experience in Electrical Installation in an FE College, School or private provider.
  • Experience of teaching courses such as C&G 7202-01, 2365-02, 2365-03, 8202-30, EAL Electrotechnical and T Levels.
  • Working knowledge of Green Skills technologies (Solar/PV, EV Chargers, Air Source Heat Pumps and Retrofit).
  • Experience delivering Electrical Inspection & Testing 2391/51 and 2391/52 and the 18th Edition BS7671: 2018.
  • Evidence of good-to-outstanding teaching, learning, assessment and tracking with a successful record of tutoring and supporting learners.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in both group and interpersonal situations.
  • Proven experience working in the Electrical industry, installing systems and equipment in a wide range of environments.
  • Up-to-date with technologies within the construction industry and able to adopt different methods and strategies according to individuals’ learning abilities.
  • Qualified teacher with a relevant Level 3 NVQ Electrotechnical qualification and registration with the JIB as ‘Approved Electrician’ status or Eng-Tech status via the IET.
  • Relevant recognised Level 3 assessor qualification e.g. TAQA.
Salary and Uplift

The salary will include a £10,000 uplift if the post holder holds the following qualifications:

  • Qualified teacher with a relevant Level 3 NVQ Electrotechnical qualification and having registration with the JIB as ‘Approved Electrician’ status or Eng-Tech status via the IET.
  • Relevant recognised Level 3 assessor qualification e.g. TAQA.
