Job description

Joining our Digital Learning team, you will work closely with our Senior Learning Technologist to play a proactive role in advising staff on the effective use of digital technologies, with a particular focus on academic and career skills development. Working collaboratively across the University, you will help shape innovative digital solutions and develop bespoke open‑access learning objects that enhance the student experience.

A key part of this role will be to support the development of AI literacies for both staff and students. You will guide colleagues in understanding the opportunities and challenges associated with emerging technologies, helping them to navigate ethical considerations and embed the critical, pedagogically sound use of AI within their teaching practice. Alongside this, you will provide expert advice on a wide range of educational technologies - including Blackboard Ultra, Panopto, MS Teams, Xerte, H5P, Mentimeter and Office 365 - ensuring staff are confident and informed in their digital practice.

Please note: while the role has technical elements, training will be provided on the job. The role is more focused on pedagogy, problem‑solving and managing projects.

You will also help oversee the design, maintenance and evaluation of online academic, careers and inclusivity resources, supporting colleagues to create engaging and accessible digital content. This includes delivering one‑to‑one coaching, group training sessions, and student‑focused teaching where appropriate. By building strong relationships across services, faculties and external partners, you will ensure digital learning considerations are well represented and that solutions are aligned with University priorities.

About you:

You will have a solid understanding of the environments in which digital learning at UWE thrives. Organised and adaptable, you will be confident managing a varied workload, balancing day‑to‑day support, documentation, coaching and training - while meeting deadlines and maintaining high standards. Your communication skills, both written and verbal, will enable you to engage and motivate colleagues, conveying (sometimes) complex information clearly and with enthusiasm.

Demonstrating comprehensive digital literacy, you will have an in‑depth understanding of the pedagogical principles that underpin effective learning and teaching. You will have hands‑on experience using a wide range of technologies (including Blackboard and Teams) and being able to create media would be an advantage (although training can be provided in this area too).

An interest in supporting staff as they approach AI‑enhanced teaching practices will further strengthen your application. You should be comfortable teaching small and large groups of staff and students online and in‑person. Knowledge of AI in Higher Education would be an advantage, but technical AI training can be provided on the job.

In addition, experience of academic and career skills, would be desirable.
