Job summary

Historic England is recruiting a Learning Team Leader to drive the Heritage Schools Programme and lead a high-performing team, delivering high-quality outcomes for pupils, teachers and schools.

The role offers hybrid working across multiple locations in England, with a 2-year fixed-term contract and a comprehensive benefits package including a generous pension, holidays and development opportunities.

This is full time, 2 year fixed-term contract position.

The location of this role is either Newcastle, York, Manchester, Birmingham, Swindon, Bristol, Portsmouth (Fort Cumberland) or Cambridge, inclusive with hybrid working.

What you will be doing

To provide leadership for Historic England's Learning Team and our flagship Heritage Schools Programme, ensuring high quality outcomes for children, young people and teachers, demonstrating impact and contributing to Historic England's strategic priorities, including helping young people understand routes into heritage careers and develop relevant skills.

You will lead and develop a high performing team, oversee commissioned delivery, build effective partnerships across the heritage and education sectors, and ensure that evidence, learning and financial sustainability drive continuous improvement and future development.

Who we are looking for
  • Successful experience of leading and developing experienced high performing teams
  • Strong understanding of learning, participation and engagement practice, including how heritage supports delivery of the curriculum in schools in England
  • Experience of managing complex programmes, projects or services delivered through multiple partners, including commissioning external services and managing contracts
  • Excellent relationship-building, influencing, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Understanding of impact evaluation approaches and the use of evidence to inform decision-making.
