Job description

Are you a sports coach or someone with a passion for physical activity and working with young people? Are you looking to take your skills into a classroom setting and support learners with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?

AK Teaching is currently recruiting SEN Support Workers to work on a supply basis across our specialist partner schools in the Northumberland area, starting September.

This role is ideal for individuals with a sporting background who are ready to take on a classroom-based role supporting learners with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and other complex needs. While this is not a sports coaching role, many of the classes are male-dominated, and students respond particularly well to football, outdoor learning, and movement-based activities.

The Role:
- Supporting learners aged 5-16 with SEN needs, particularly SEMH and ASD
- Encouraging engagement in lessons and helping manage behaviours
- Using your sports background to build rapport and promote positive interaction
- Supporting both academic and emotional development
- Working 1:1 or in small groups within the classroom

Who We're Looking For:
- People with a background in sports coaching, youth work, or active support roles
- No school-based experience required - just the right attitude and willingness to learn
- Resilient, patient, and calm under pressure
- Confident in managing behaviour and engaging reluctant learners

What We Offer:
- Free CPD training, including Safeguarding and Behaviour Management
- A dedicated consultant to support you throughout your placement
- A chance to gain valuable experience in the SEN education sector
- Opportunities for long-term or permanent roles in the future

Requirements:
- DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply for one (AK Teaching can help facilitate this)
- Availability to work Monday to Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm
- A proactive, energetic, and supportive approach

If you're ready to use your skills to inspire and support young people, this could be your perfect next step.

Apply now and take the first step towards a rewarding role in education with AK Teaching.
