Learning Support Assistant – Temporary Opportunities Available

Location: North East (Wallsend or South Shields Area) Hours: Up to 30 hours per week – flexible hours available Contract: Temporary basis, term‑time only - likely to be until July 2026. Hourly Rate: £14.17 per hour including holiday pay

Are you passionate about empowering learners with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)? Do you want to be part of a supportive, forward‑thinking college that values your contribution?

We are looking for enthusiastic and compassionate Learning Support Assistants to join a well‑established and passionate SEND department, Safeguarding and Inclusion team on a temporary basis. Whether you're looking for a few hours or a fuller schedule, we have flexible opportunities to suit your availability.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Supporting learners with a range of disabilities in both group and one-to-one settings
  • Assisting with Maths and English learning programmes
  • Creating a positive, inclusive and respectful learning environment
  • Collaborating with teaching and support staff to help learners thrive
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience with 16 years plus, ideally within a FE or Secondary environment. We will also consider those with support worker background
  • Confidence supporting learners with diverse needs
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English at Grade C/Level 2 (or willingness to work towards)
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. Supporting Teaching and Learning Level 2+, CACHE, SaLT, Makaton, BSL) (desirable)
  • DBS on update service (Child and Adult Checks) or willingness to get one
  • A caring, team-oriented attitude
Bonus Skills
  • Experience with challenging behaviours
  • Support experience in Maths and English
  • Level 3 Diploma in Education and Training
  • HLTA qualification
  • Awareness of current SEND developments in FE
