Job summary

Ivy House Nursery in Farnham is seeking a warm Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a child throughout the nursery day. The role focuses on inclusion, safeguarding and helping the child build confidence and independence.

The ideal candidate has experience with SEND, is patient and communicative, and can work closely with staff, parents and professionals to create a nurturing, safe environment.

Qualifications

• Experience providing 1:1 support to young children in a nursery/early years setting.
• Experience working with children with SEND or additional needs.
• A caring, patient approach to working with young children.

Learning Support Assistant (LSA) 1:1 Nursery Support

Location: Ivy House, Wellington Lane, Farnham GU9 9BA
Hours: 3 4 days per week, 9:30am 2:30pm
Contract: Part-time & Temporary
Start date: November 2026

About the role

We are looking for a warm, caring and experienced Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a child in our nursery setting.

The successful candidate will work closely with the child, nursery staff and wider support team to help the child feel safe, included and supported throughout their nursery day. You will provide individualised support, encourage participation in activities and help the child develop their confidence, independence and social skills.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young children and has a genuine interest in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Key Responsibilities For The Learning Support Assistant

• Provide consistent and supportive 1:1 assistance to the child throughout the nursery day.

• Maintain a safe, positive and nurturing environment.

• Promote inclusion and ensure the child is supported to be part of the wider nursery community.

We are looking for someone who is an experienced and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant (LSA), ideally in a nursery or early years setting. We want someone who is experienced in supporting children with SEND or additional needs and is patient, calm, nurturing and approachable.

You would need to be able to build a strong, trusting relationship with a young child, be confident working as part of a team while also being able to work independently. You must be reliable, consistent and professional, as well as being a good communicator with a positive and flexible approach.

Essential Requirements

• Previous experience working as an LSA or teaching assistant.

• Experience supporting children on a 1:1 basis.

• A caring and patient approach to working with young children.

Desirable Requirements

• Experience working within a nursery or early years environment.

• Experience supporting children with SEND.

• A relevant qualification in childcare, education, teaching assistance, SEND or a related field.

• Knowledge of strategies that support communication, emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
