Job summary

Blackburn with Darwen Council is seeking an experienced Social Worker for the Learning Disability Team in Darwen Town Hall. The role focuses on safeguarding and enabling independent living for adults with a learning disability, working closely with health professionals and Children’s Services where needed.

Qualifications

• Experience in Court of Protection work.
• Willingness to supervise and support learning for students and staff.
• Practice Educator qualification is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Deliver safeguarding and social work services to people with learning disabilities and their carers.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including health professionals to promote independent living.
• Support learning of junior social workers and students through supervision and mentoring.
• Engage with families, carers and involved professionals across various settings.

We have a rare opportunity for a full-time, 12 months fixed term, Social Worker on the Learning Disability Team.

Social workers in Blackburn with Darwen play a lead role in delivering professional services to safeguard the welfare of the most vulnerable members of our communities and trying to ensure that people can remain living independently in their own homes for as long as possible.

The Learning Disability social work team is made up of social workers and review and assessment officers based at Darwen Town Hall.We are a co-located team with health professionals, including nurses, speech and language therapists and psychiatrists.We also work alongside Children’s Services to support young people who are preparing for adulthood. We are a passionate team, committed to making a difference for people with a Learning Disability and their carers. It is an interesting and varied role. No two days are ever the same!

We are looking for an experienced Social Worker who has a passion for working with people with a learning disability, their families and carers.We work across a variety of settings including with people in their own home, living independently or with their families, supported living, Shared Lives, schools, hospitals and residential homes.

We are a supportive and nurturing team, we regularly have students and social work students on our team. All team members benefit from regular supervision and are encouraged to access training and development opportunities.

The Learning Disability Team work closely with our Legal Department. We are therefore looking for a social worker who has experience in Court of Protection work.

The team provides regular placements for student social workers and apprentices. We are looking for someone who is keen to support the learning of others and ideally holds the Practice Educator qualification.
