We have an exciting opportunity for a Learning Disability Nurse to join our Mental Health team at HMP Moorland, a men’s category C Prison and young offender institution located in South Yorkshire.

Good induction for new starters, triage training and lots of different training packages on offer, sharing best practice across the LD forum. Free parking, low turnover of staff, wellbeing days, strong relationships and partnerships.

Hours

37.5 hours per week, 8‑4 pm Monday to Friday with weekend working, 1 in 6 weekends (same hours).

Salary

Full time – annual salary up to £41,659 per annum (FTE), depending on experience.

Candidates are required to have a Legal right to work in the UK and, due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

Responsibilities
  • Work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team and in partnership with other services, agencies and organisations, developing specialist clinical skills in working with an offender population with a diversity of presenting problems, including psychosis and personality disorder, that feature alongside their learning disability and/or autism spectrum disorder.
  • Make clinical judgments with regard to their immediate needs and long‑term treatment, administer medication as prescribed by the doctor within guidelines for medicines administration.
  • Provide a holistic package of care to patients within the prison system, managing the assessment of health needs, planning, delivery and evaluation of care for the prison population, including clinical risk assessment.
  • Deliver non‑judgemental care that makes a real difference, as defined throughout our bespoke Health in Justice Competency framework.

Qualifications required
  • Registered Nurse (RNLD) with current NMC registration
  • Evidence of continued CPD
  • Experience in or willingness to develop skills relevant to the clinical area
  • Ability to find and use new information in relation to patient care
  • Competency in core skills, knowledge and attitudes relevant to the clinical area, including knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983, management and administration of all necessary resources to deliver care, assessment, treatment and care management and collaborative working
  • Understanding of clinical governance

Although not essential, ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.
