Job description

🍕 We’re on a mission to make people happier, one pizza at a time. Want in? 🍕

We’re looking for a Learning and Development Trainer to join the L&D team. Love helping others grow? Then read on.

You will play a key role supporting the development of teams at all levels across our pizzerias and bringing the Pizza Pilgrims spirit to life across the country. You’ll be at the heart of training at new sites, supporting managers, and delivering our Academy workshops – all while making sure our people feel confident, capable, and inspired.

This role is based in London, but you'll also be asked to travel across the UK to support new openings, training, and other key projects outside the capital.

If you’re passionate about people, love seeing others succeed, and want to be part of shaping the future of Pizza Pilgrims, we’d love to hear from you!

Full-time | Reports to Head of L&D | No direct reports

At Pizza Pilgrims, we aspire to create an inclusive environment where everyone can be themselves, feel genuinely cared for and have equal opportunities for growth and progression. We are committed to building a diverse team that includes and respects a variety of voices, identities, backgrounds, experiences and perspectives, which creates proper happiness, just like our pizzas do!

14 years ago Thom & James drove a Piaggio ape Tuk Tuk all the way from Sicily to London on a 'Pizza Pilgrimage' to learn the secrets of perfect Italian pizza. They went on to set up a market stall in Soho with an oven in the back of the van before opening their first actual pizzeria on Dean Street.

Now we have over 20 award-winning pizzerias across the UK, we’ve got our own Pizza Academy where we run training workshops every day, and we’re also a BCORP - something we’re extremely proud about achieving. We pride ourselves on using the best ingredients from Naples including Caputo flour, fresh fior di latte, salsiccia e friarielle , to make the best Neapolitan pizza every day.

What you’ll be doing:
New openings training
  • Lead full-team training for brand new Pizzeria launches.
  • Get involved in fun and effective recruitment days.
  • Lead successful soft launch training and coach managers through their first few weeks in their new shiny pizzeria.
Skills Training (BOH & FOH)
  • Deliver hands‑on skills sessions and ‘Brilliant at the Basics’ training for all roles.
  • Support refurb re‑openings.
Management Trainees
  • Support new external managers in training with on‑site visits and coaching, ensuring our honeymoon training is being followed and they are being set up for success.
  • Supporting the growth of our internal talent, ensuring they are moving through their career path to hit their goals.
  • Lead the end of training sign‑off process, highlighting successes and building tailored development plans as an outcome.
Academy Workshops
  • Deliver Academy Workshops, suggesting improvements along the way to ensure they remain fun, educational, and engaging.
A bit about you:
  • A confident presenter and supportive coach, comfortable leading a group training session or supporting development on a 121 basis.
  • Love hospitality, have a great understanding of the industry and have worked within a People or Operational team.
  • Have a solid understanding of how powerful great training and development can impact the success of the people and the business.
  • A proactive planner but you are also able to react quickly and navigate last minute changes with ease.
  • Love to problem solve and be curious.
  • Happy to travel and work independently where necessary.
  • Team player who loves a challenge, to champion others and bring coaching to life.

Whilst skills are important, representing our values is just as important too.

‘Push Yourself’ because we believe learning new skills and coming out of your comfort zone will help us improve as a team.

‘Be Yourself’ means you can bring your own personality to work. Your hair colour is yours, not ours. We love hearing about your interests outside of work.

‘Respect Others’ because everyone is welcome at Pilgrims and we’re committed to creating an inclusive environment where people feel they belong.

‘Enjoy Yourself’ because hospitality is an industry we love, and we want every Pilgrim to create happiness for each other and to have fun at work.

What's in it for you?
  • £45,000 + 20% bonus.
  • 40hr week over 5 days.
  • On top of the standard 28 days holiday, you will get an extra day for every year you work for us (up to 5 Years).
  • Every 5 years with us, you get a paid 4-week sabbatical on top of your 33 days holiday! All take together, so you can fully switch off and come back fresh.
  • 1 extra day holiday as “Happiness Day” so you can do something that you love and makes you happy about outside of work.
