Job summary

Leeds City College is recruiting a Lead Apprenticeship Assessor Coach – Abattoir to join our team. The role is variable hours with a full-time equivalent salary starting at £34,869, progressing to £40,410 per annum pro rata, plus a £3,000 market supplement per annum pro rata.

You will lead delivery, assessment and quality assurance of abattoir and butchery apprenticeship programmes, manage apprentices, provide coaching and workplace assessments, and collaborate with employers, awarding bodies

Qualifications

  • Experienced apprenticeship assessor and coach with knowledge of abattoir and butchery sectors.
  • Proven ability to support apprentices with coaching, progression and audits.
  • Strong understanding of apprenticeship standards, funding and IQA/standardisation processes.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of learners, organise workplace assessment visits and employer meetings.
  • Deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment within the Butchery department to engage apprentices.
  • Strengthen relationships with employers, mentors and awarding bodies to enable opportunities and compliance.
  • Provide expert CPD and curriculum input to improve learner progression and outcomes.
  • Support development of curriculum content, delivery methods and CPD in line with reforms and funding rules.
  • Share specialist expertise to deliver CPD and industry updates for internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain links with Apprenticeship Assessment Organisations to ensure robust assessment and outcomes.
  • Contribute to IQA duties, ensuring standards and continuous improvement across delivery.

About the Role

Leeds City College are recruiting for a Lead Apprenticeship Assessor Coach - Abattoir to join our team.

This role is variable hours, the full time equivalent salary commences at £34,869 with progression to £40,410 per annum pro rata plus £3,000 market supplement per annum pro rata.

As a Lead Apprenticeship Assessor Coach you will be responsible for leading the delivery, assessment and quality assurance of abattoir and supporting associated butchery apprenticeship programmes.

You will manage apprentices throughout their learning journey, providing expert coaching, workplace assessment, progress reviews and individual support to achieve timely, high-quality outcomes.

You will work closely with employers, workplace mentors, awarding bodies and apprenticeship assessment organisations to ensure programmes meet industry standards, Skills England reforms, DfE funding rules and end-point assessment requirements.

You will support learner recruitment, initial assessment, individual learning plans, off-the-job training and progression while maintaining accurate compliance and performance records.

As a departmental specialist, you will contribute to curriculum development, assessment resources, staff and employer CPD, internal quality assurance and standardisation. The role will also strengthen industry partnerships, support programme growth and promote apprentice participation in relevant competitions and events at local, national and international levels.

What You Will Do
  • To manage a caseload of learners, organise workplace assessment visits and meetings with employers.
  • Deliver high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment within the Butchery department, ensuring excellent apprentice engagement, attendance and achievement through embedding and tracking of key milestones.
  • Strengthen internal and external stakeholder relationships to support growth, progression and commercial opportunities.
  • Provide current professional and academic expertise to enhance learner progression and promote involvement in relevant competitions and events at local, national, and international levels.
  • Support the development of new curriculum content, delivery methods, and CPD in line with Skills England apprenticeship reforms and Department for Education (DfE) funding rule updates, ensuring quality, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Share specialist expertise to deliver high-quality CPD, industry updates, and academic development for both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain and develop strong links with Apprenticeship Assessment Organisations and awarding bodies to ensure departmental excellence, rigorous apprenticeship assessment, and successful learner outcomes.
  • Contribute to Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) duties, ensuring robust quality standards, compliance, standardisation, and continuous improvement across apprenticeship delivery and assessment practices in the Butchery department.
About You
  • You will be an experienced apprenticeship assessor and coach with strong occupational knowledge of the abattoir and associated butchery sectors.
  • You will have a proven ability to support apprentices throughout their learning journey through effective coaching, workplace assessment, progress reviews and tailored individual support. With a thorough understanding of apprenticeship standards, funding requirements, quality assurance and apprenticeship assessment.
  • You will be confident working collaboratively with employers, workplace mentors, awarding bodies and assessment organisations.
  • You will be highly organised, able to maintain accurate compliance and performance records, and committed to achieving timely, high-quality learner outcomes.
  • As a departmental specialist, you will also bring the passion and enthusiasm for curriculum development, staff and employer training, industry engagement and programme growth.
