Job summary

South Thames Colleges Group is seeking a Learning Coach in Kingston upon Thames to support and mentor learners with social, emotional and mental health needs, disabilities or learning difficulties, and to provide ESOL, English and Maths support to help learners successfully complete their courses.

The role is permanent and 28 hours per week over 38 weeks (term time only), with a salary in the range £18,887–£20,015 per annum (FTE £28,836–£30,550).

Qualifications

  • Experience with learners with social, emotional and mental health needs is beneficial.
  • Ability to use initiative, organise and prioritise tasks.
  • Good communication skills at all levels.
  • Good administration and computer skills to maintain learner progress records and set smart targets based on EHCP outcomes.
  • Willingness to achieve GCSE/Level 2 English & Maths if not already held.

Responsibilities

  • Support and mentor learners with social, emotional, mental health needs and other barriers to learning.
  • Provide ESOL, English and Maths support to enable learners to complete qualifications and EHCP outcomes.

Role Overview

The role of Learning Coach is a rewarding one, as you will support and mentor learners with social, emotional, and mental health needs, a disability, learning difficulty or medical condition, and/or with ESOL, English and Maths support needs, to enable them to successfully complete their qualifications, courses and where appropriate, education, health and care plan (EHCP) outcomes.

Candidate Requirements
  • Experience is not essential but it would be beneficial if you have worked with young people or adults who have social, emotional and mental health needs.
  • Ability to use initiative, organise and prioritise.
  • Good communication skills at all levels.
  • Good administration and computer skills to keep high-quality written records of learner progress and set appropriate smart targets based on EHCP outcomes, support plans, and coursework.
  • Willingness to achieve a GCSE/Level 2 or equivalent with grades A
    • -C in English and Mathematics (if not already held).
