Job summary

Park Aspire AP Academy, part of Exceed Academies Trust, is seeking a Learning & Behaviour Assistant to support pupils with SEMH, SEND and behavioural needs across KS1–KS3. The role involves delivering strategies, building positive relationships and promoting a safe, inclusive learning environment.

You will work with teachers and specialists to plan activities, monitor progress and contribute to safeguarding and wellbeing.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work with pupils who may have social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), or behavioural challenges. You will play a vital role in supporting pupils both academically and emotionally, helping them engage successfully in school life.

Our small class sizes allow us to understand each pupil’s unique needs and create strong, trusting relationships that help them flourish.

The successful candidate will need to understand the complex emotional, social and behavioural needs of KS1, KS2 and KS3 pupils, and will be required to cope with highly complex problems, particularly challenging behaviours. Some of our pupils are involved in high risk-taking activities and may lead chaotic lifestyles or suffer from neglect, forms of abuse, be witness to domestic violence and experience family upheaval. Pupils need to be treated sympathetically and with sensitivity in light of their difficulties they face and be helped to overcome those barriers to succeed.

Our team is made up of dedicated, highly skilled professionals with expertise in supporting pupils with SEND as well as social, emotional, mental health, and behavioural needs. We work closely with Educational Psychologists, CAMHS, Children’s Services, Early Help and other partners, ensuring that every young person receives the tailored, holistic support they need.

About the Role

As a Learning & Behaviour Assistant, you will:

• Support pupils in overcoming learning and behavioural barriers.

• Assist with the planning and delivery of learning activities.

• Contribute to safeguarding, inclusion and wellbeing across the academy.
• Assist in maintaining a safe, positive and supportive learning environment.

Essential Requirements

• Experience of working with children or young people.
• Experience of supporting pupils with SEND and/or behavioural needs.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of behaviour management approaches.
• Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
• Ability to remain calm, professional and solution-focused in challenging situations.

Desirable

• Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience.
• Team Teach training.
• First Aid qualification.
• Experience working within an alternative provision or specialist setting.
• Additional training relating to SEND, behaviour support or child development.
