Job summary

Electus Recruitment is seeking a Lead Unreal Programmer to own the core coding architecture for defence-focused virtual reality training projects. You will shape architecture, lead a growing development team, and evaluate emerging technologies for real-world applications, including AI and AR as applicable.

Based in Portsmouth with a hybrid pattern (3 days onsite), the role requires British nationality due to project sensitivity; this is a permanent position offering family medical and dental

Qualifications

• Advanced Unreal Engine and C++ skills.
• Experience with XR is a plus.
• Experience with multiplayer networking and performance optimization.
• Ability to lead a development team and liaise with contractors.
• Degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide the core coding architecture and technical structure for digital training applications.
• Lead and support the internal development team whilst ensuring code quality meets industry standard practices.
• Coordinate closely with sub-contractors and external partners throughout the project lifecycle.
• Research and evaluate new simulation technologies to support long-term engineering strategies.
• Assist internal change teams with technical proposals and project scoping documentation.

Lead Unreal Programmer

You will take ownership of core coding architecture and shape innovative virtual reality simulation projects within the defence sector. This position provides a clear pathway to diversify your technical expertise across artificial intelligence and augmented reality while leading project delivery. You will guide a growing team to modernise critical training solutions and evaluate emerging technologies for real-world applications.

Who we are looking for

• British nationality is required due to the nature of the projects.


• Advanced programming capability with Unreal Engine and C++.


• Experience of XR is a plus.


• Working knowledge of multiplayer network coding and performance optimisation & experience collaborating with client-facing research and development teams are also great added skills.
