Job Purpose
Based in Workington and reporting to the O&M Area Manager, the Lead Technician will be responsible for delivering planned and unplanned maintenance on Vestas wind turbines (V47, V52 and V80).
This is a highly operational and technically focused role, ensuring turbine availability, fault response, and safe and efficient execution of all site activities.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Fault Rectification
- Carry out scheduled maintenance in line with OEM and internal procedures.
- Lead troubleshooting and repair of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and control systems.
- Support major component work and ensure first‑time‑fix wherever possible.
- Take a proactive approach to identifying and preventing issues that could impact turbine availability.
Operational Delivery
- Act as the senior technician on‑site, supporting the planning and coordination of daily activities.
- Ensure all works are executed efficiently, safely, and to high technical standards.
- Maintain an availability‑driven mindset, prioritising quick and effective fault resolution.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with WTSR, site rules, and internal safety procedures.
- Maintain standards around PPE, tooling, calibration, van condition and site safety behaviours.
- Close out SHEQ observations and ensure corrective actions are completed promptly.
On‑Call Support
- Participate in the weekend and out‑of‑hours on‑call rota.
- Lead fault response during escalations, ensuring safe and timely turbine restoration.
Inventory & Asset Control
- Coordinate local spares, consumables, tooling and lifting equipment.
- Support stock management activities, including bi‑annual stocktakes and returns of defective parts.
Communication & Reporting
- Provide clear and accurate updates to the Area Manager and team.
- Record maintenance and fault activity accurately in the CMMS (X5).
- Customer communication will be required only when delegated by the Area Manager.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
Essential
- Proven experience working on Vestas turbines (V47, V52, V80).
- AT‑level certification on Vestas platforms.
- Strong mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and control‑system knowledge.
- Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Strong understanding of WTSR and safety‑critical environments.
- Highly organised with the ability to coordinate work, parts and activities effectively.
- Strong communication and reporting ability.
- High level of physical fitness and ability to work at height.
- Full UK driving licence.
