Job summary

Sellick Partnership is seeking a Mechanical Lead in Manchester to take charge of on-site mechanical services, oversee planned and reactive maintenance, and ensure reliable operation of critical building systems.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2+ in Mechanical Engineering Services or equivalent.
• 5–10 years’ experience as Mechanical Engineer in FM/Building Services.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical building services, plant and equipment.
• Experience leading engineers or supervising contractors on-site.
• CPMPS certification.
• Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of health and safety legislation and safe working practices.
• Ability to obtain BPSS clearance.
• Desirable: IPAF and PASMA certifications.

Responsibilities

Mechanical Lead

Manchester

40 Hours Per Week

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Lead to join a well-established facilities management team in Manchester. This role is ideal for an experienced Mechanical Engineer looking to take the lead on site, overseeing both planned and reactive maintenance activities while ensuring the smooth operation of critical building services systems.

Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Lead:

• Lead the site engineering team and act as the mechanical engineering champion on site.
• Carry out and oversee planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on mechanical building services systems.
• Diagnose, fault-find and rectify complex mechanical faults and plant issues.
• Ensure building services systems operate efficiently and maintain optimum environmental conditions.
• Manage Legionella monitoring and control activities in line with compliance requirements.
• Supervise subcontractors and ensure all work is completed safely and to the required standard.
• Produce reports, parts lists and estimated timescales for remedial works.
• Maintain accurate plant logs, maintenance records and CAFM updates.
• Operate permit-to-work systems and ensure compliance with risk assessments and safe systems of work.
• Support emergency and contingency planning and participate in the on-call rota.
• Assist with plant investigations, asset validation and continuous improvement initiatives across the site.

The Successful Mechanical Lead will have:

• NVQ Level 2 or above in Mechanical Engineering Services or equivalent.
• Around 5 to 10 years' experience working as a Mechanical Engineer within a Facilities Management or Building Services environment.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical building services, plant and equipment.
• Experience leading engineers or supervising contractors on‑site.
• Competent Person Mechanical and Pressure Systems (CPMPS) certification.
• Excellent fault‑finding, diagnostic and problem‑solving skills.
• Experience planning and overseeing plant isolations and shutdowns.
• A strong understanding of health & safety legislation and safe working practices.
• The ability to obtain and maintain BPSS clearance.Desirable Qualifications & Experience
