Job summary

JPMorgan Chase & Co. in Bournemouth seeks a Lead Software Engineer to join the Corporate Global Tax Technology team.

You will design, build, and scale cloud-based applications that support critical tax workflows in a secure, agile environment. You will lead engineering practices, collaborate with architects and peers, and drive AI/ML-enabled development while ensuring high standards for reliability, security, and performance.

Qualifications

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts.
• Experience in cloud development with a focus on design and development.

• Advanced in Java and Python.
• Strong experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).

Job responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement cloud-based applications and services.


• Collaborate with architects and engineers to ensure design solutions are aligned with business goals.


• Optimize applications for performance, scalability, and security.


• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers.


• Stay up to date with emerging Cloud and AI/ML technologies and industry trends to drive innovation and continuous improvement


• Lead communities of practice across Software Engineering to promote awareness and adoption of new and leading-edge technologies


• Drives team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices within the work environment to improve code quality, delivery speed, and operational outcomes (e.g., AI-assisted code review/refactoring, test strategy acceleration, incident/root-cause analysis support), while establishing consistent validation standards (secure coding, peer review, automated testing) and promoting reuse of effective patterns across the team.


• Applies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation


• Executes creative software solutions, design, development, and technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches to build solutions or break down technical problems


• Develops secure high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by others


• Identifies opportunities to eliminate or automate remediation of recurring issues to improve overall operational stability of software applications and systems

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and applied experience


• Experienced in cloud development (AWS), with a focus on application design and development.


• Experience with AI/ML model integration, Prompt engineering, LLM APIs (OpenAI, Bedrock) and Generative AI


• Advanced in Java and Python


• Strong experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.


• Experience building RESTful APIs and working with event-drivenorserverless architectures.


• Demonstrated experience leading effective use of approved AI-assisted software development tools (e.g., for coding, code review, test acceleration, troubleshooting) with the ability to set team expectations for validating AI outputs for correctness, performance, and security.


• Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods


• Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle


• Advanced understanding of agile methodologies such as CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security


• Experience in Infrastructure as code (IAC) such as Terraform or equivalent

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

• Experience in automation in any scripting languages.


• Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Developer, Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer, or Google Professional Cloud Developer


• Familiarity with database technologies such as SQL, NoSQL, and cloud-native databases.


• Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.


• Experience with building out loosely coupled software and familiarity with SOA/Microservice architectures
