Job summary

Northrop Grumman UK in Cheltenham (hybrid) seeks a Lead Software Engineer to design, develop and maintain critical infrastructure powering our services. You will lead a team across diverse projects, delivering scalable backend systems with modern frontend components.

You will guide the team through requirements, design, implementation, testing and deployment, while mentoring junior engineers and ensuring customer needs are met in an agile environment.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Software Developer with Backend Java (Spring Boot, Maven).
• Proven experience designing, developing and deploying scalable backend systems.
• Familiarity with CI/CD, containerisation, deployment technologies and cloud platforms (Jenkins, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS).
• Frontend development using React and npm.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the team's deliverables and define the best path forward with the Scrum Master.
• Contribute across the full software development lifecycle from requirements through deployment.
• Collaborate with product teams, frontend engineers and QA to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Mentor and guide junior developers to grow team capability.
