Job description
Overview

Tesco Online is made up of a growing portfolio of businesses including the biggest online grocer in the UK and one of the largest in the world. Digital growth is core to Tesco's future strategy and scaling propositions such as Whoosh and Marketplace are allowing customers access to new and exciting products and services online. As the Lead SEO Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing effective search engine optimisation strategies to drive organic traffic and further improve Tesco's online share of voice in the market. You will own the SEO budget and work closely with our agency partners to spot new opportunities, as well as optimising the SEO fundamentals to aid agentic discovery.

Responsibilities
  • Lead all operational aspects of SEO at Tesco, including driving share of voice across all Online businesses.
  • Support the discovery of Local SEO strategy through the Tesco store estate.
  • Own the SEO budget and carefully forecast, monitor and optimise spend into the most impactful areas to generate return for Tesco.
  • Drive and own the SEO roadmap into Technology teams to drive organic traffic.
  • Partner with Trading and Product teams to apply SEO best practices to content pages, taxonomy and copy across website and app to drive discoverability.
  • Drive strategic thinking in the AI space for the Customer function, whilst closely partnering with our Technology teams to combine future strategy.
  • Identify high value recommendations from our agencies and develop internal business cases to drive implementation.
  • Conduct competitor analyses and market research to identify trends that Tesco can capitalize upon now and into the future.
  • Lead with strong data and reporting to help internal teams optimise and plan their execution trading cycles.
  • Lead and coach an SEO Executive to develop within the role and beyond.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years working in a SEO focused role, either in agency or in house.
  • Extensive experience of SEO management on large scale ecommerce websites.
  • Strong Technical SEO background and principles.
  • Deep agentic AI thinking – perspective and strategic planning for Tesco and the customer.
  • Understanding of SEO tools, e.g. Google Search Console and broader tracking / crawling tools.
  • Strong reporting and analytics navigation, both SEO tools and broader analytics, e.g. Adobe and Google Analytics.
  • Ownership of budget lines into multiple agencies.
  • Team management and leadership / coaching of SEO experts.
  • Passion for ecommerce and online trading.
