Job summary

South Derbyshire District Council is seeking a permanent full-time driver for the kerbside refuse and recycling collection team in South Derbyshire. The role involves collecting waste from households and businesses, operating allocated vehicles safely, and performing daily safety checks.

The shift starts at 6am, Monday to Friday, with no fixed finish time, and crews may take on extra rounds when their own work is completed. An LGV C licence and a current Driver Qualification Card are essential.

Qualifications

• Must hold an LGV C driving licence.
• Must have a current Driver Qualification Card.

Responsibilities

• Collect waste and recycling from households, commercial and industrial properties using wheeled bins, bulk items and refuse sacks.
• Operate allocated vehicles safely and efficiently, complying with driving legislation and agreed practices.
• Carry out daily vehicle safety checks and report vehicle defects.
• Keep vehicles in good condition and clean, including the weekly clean.
• Load refuse and recycling onto vehicles.
• Plan and schedule collection routes.
• Carry out allocated collections and deliveries.
• Support other rounds once the allocated round is complete.
• Liaise with supervisors and office staff.
• Report accidents and near misses.
