Job summary

HSBC is seeking an experienced Real-Time Data Engineering Lead to shape and deliver high-volume, low-latency data flows transforming transaction events into actionable intelligence in real time.

The role collaborates across engineering, cloud, security, product, AI and financial crime teams to detect threats earlier and enable controlled automated intervention, while mentoring senior engineers and fostering ownership.

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in real-time data processing and streaming architectures.
• Experience with high-volume, low-latency data flows and event-driven systems.
• Proven delivery of complex data platforms and 24x7 production operation.
• Production experience with Google Cloud and cost optimisation.
• Strong engineering judgement on observability, resilience, and security.
• Experience leading senior technical teams and stakeholder management.
• Knowledge of transaction monitoring, AML or other regulated domains is valuable.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical direction and delivery of scalable data flows across HSBC's global markets.
• Architect event-driven solutions for ingestion, transformation and delivery to monitoring and intervention services.
• Lead engineering teams to build highly available and observable streaming platforms.
• Set standards for data quality, privacy, security, performance and resilience.
• Make architectural trade-offs and partner with product and AI teams to enable controlled production capability.
• Influence the broader financial crime tech roadmap and coach engineers.
