Job summary

Sefton Council is seeking a Lead Ranger – Coast & Countryside to lead the Land Management Team in Green Sefton. The role involves supervising staff, planning, and delivering coast & countryside maintenance and conservation tasks across the borough, with initial base at the Ainsdale Discovery Centre and borough-wide support as required.

You will manage health & safety, supervise volunteers, and engage with the public while ensuring high standards of conservation work within a diverse landscape.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of health and safety in outdoor work.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint a Lead Ranger – Coast & Countryside, to work in the Land Management Team, within Green Sefton at Sefton Council.

Green Sefton provides our communities with a clean, green Borough across a diverse portfolio including; managing internationally important nature reserves (e.g. SSSI) parks and greenspaces, trees, woodlands, play and recreational facilities, municipal golf courses and our protected coastline, beaches, sand dunes and countryside. The service delivers extensive benefits to the health and wellbeing of residents, visitors, local businesses, and nature itself.

The role involves staff supervision, scheduling and delegating works, considering health & safety issues, general administration, working outdoors leading teams on a wide range of practical tasks in coast & countryside maintenance & conservation management, using a variety of tools, machinery, and equipment, supporting community and conservation volunteers, and dealing with the public.

The role sits in Green Sefton, within the In-House Operational Services Department and is based in the operational depot at Ainsdale Discovery Centre as a main base but providing boroughwide support as required.
