A leading international contractor in Glasgow is seeking a Lead Quantity Surveyor to join its Scottish Power & Renewables team. The role involves managing financial aspects of high voltage projects, requiring at least 5 years of relevant experience and a degree in Quantity Surveying. Qualifications

Lead Quantity Surveyor - electrical bias Glasgow £75‑85k + car or call allowance

This leading international contractor is looking to add a Lead Quantity Surveyor to its Scottish Power & Renewables team.

Supporting the commercial delivery of high voltage (HV) projects, with a focus on substations, switchgear installations and cable works. The role involves cost control, contract administration, valuation and project financial management to ensure cost‑effective project execution based from Glasgow. Candidates must be electrically biased and have experience on Substation, Grid Connection, Battery Storage and Oil & Gas oriented projects.

Role responsibilities will include
  • Budgeting, reporting, developing BOQ’s and profit plans.
  • Managing interim commercial meetings with the client and internal project team; reporting in detail to the Project Manager on commercial status.
  • Managing subcontractor accounts, interim valuations and final accounts; ensuring payment certificates are processed and payments are made per agreed sub‑contract and procurement terms.
  • Administering contract obligations, issuing interim and final accounts and progress applications per project and contract requirements; monthly applications inclusive of accurate remeasures, site changes, dayworks and any applicable contract claims.
  • Identifying potential commercial risks and ensuring prompt reporting to Senior Management.
  • Understanding scheduling and commercial implications; collaborating with the Planning Engineer on progress reporting.
  • Costing and agreeing daily work changes, including managing subcontractor re‑measurement of contract works and site change orders.
  • Maintaining accurate records and detailed backup to support commercial tracking and costing.
  • Working on own initiative, prioritising tasks without direction.
  • Delivering speed and accuracy of information.
  • Negotiating with clients or their representatives as necessary.
  • Setting an example of enthusiasm, loyalty and hard work in the performance of all duties.
Candidates should have the following
  • 3rd level qualification in Construction Economics / Quantity Surveying, ideally coupled with a technical background as an Electrician/Instrumentation Technician (or similar) or Electrical Engineer.
  • 5+ years’ experience in a similar capacity on projects in excess of £7M in electrical scope.
  • Prior work placement experience would be advantageous.
  • Proficient in Excel.
  • Knowledge of contract conditions and their applications.
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent record keeping and administration skills.
