Job summary

LSEG seeks a Senior Associate Quality Engineer to join our automated testing program for Java microservices. You will coach developers, design and execute unit, component, contract, and end-to-end tests, and embed quality early in the SDLC.

You'll work in an Agile environment, promote BDD practices, and help drive a unified testing strategy across service families. Experience with JUnit, Rest-Assured, Pact and AWS Lambda is highly valued.

Qualifications

  • Proven Java development and test automation experience.
  • Strong unit, component, contract, and end-to-end testing skills.
  • Experience in CI/CD and trunk-based development.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical expert in automated testing for Java microservices.
  • Coach developers to adopt strong testing practices and embed quality early in the SDLC.
  • Drive a microservices testing strategy across test levels (unit, component, contract, E2E).
  • Encourage containerised services locally to prevent integration issues and keep pipelines clean.
  • Design and validate integration tests between Java services and AWS Lambda.

Role Summary

Join our innovative team and help us lead quality initiatives that empower developers and improve testing practices across workstreams.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Act as a technical expert in automated testing for Java microservices.
  • Coach developers to adopt strong unit, component and contract testing practices and embed quality early in the SDLC.
  • Drive a microservices testing strategy: Unit, component, contract, and simple, maintainable end‑to‑end tests.
  • Encourage developers to run containerised services locally to avoid integration issues and keep pipelines clean in a trunk‑based development environment.
  • Design and validate integration tests between Java services and AWS Lambda functions.
  • Work in Agile / Scrum, lead refinement sessions, improve user stories and acceptance criteria, and promote BDD practices (3 Amigos, Gherkin/Cucumber).
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure consistent quality practices and continuous improvement in frameworks and pipelines.
  • Lead the quality space across multiple teams in a “service family”.
What You’ll Bring
  • Working with other Quality Engineers to build and maintain automated tests using Java (JUnit, Rest‑Assured) and Pact for contract testing.
  • Tools like Selenium, Cypress and Playwright for UI testing (where applicable).
  • Integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines to support trunk‑based development.
  • Strong experience in Java development and test automation.
  • Knowledge of microservices testing strategies.
  • Solid AWS platform expertise, including Lambda (for Java integration), API Gateway, S3, CloudWatch and IAM.
  • Proven ability to work in an Agile / Scrum environment.
  • Experience with CI/CD and trunk‑based development.
  • Passion for continuous learning and enabling others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Skills
  • Containerisation & Orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes, EKS.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Cloud Formation.
  • Service Mesh: Exposure to Istio.
  • Advanced testing tools: Pact, Rest‑Assured, Mockito, Localstack.
  • Observability: Distributed tracing and monitoring in microservices.
