Morson are working with the leading defence manufacturer who are looking for a Lead Quality Engineer to join the quality team at their site in Barrow in Furness.
Core duties
- Work as a fully contributory member of the Quality team and support the development of others within specialist area
- Responsible for demonstrating SHE and responsible business behaviours
- Undertake specialist non‑routine and or complex Quality Assurance activities and tasks in their related area
- Manage own development
- Able to access, have a clear understanding of and develop the local Management System documentation e.g. policies, procedures, workmanship standards, risk assessments and processes in their related area
- Ensure cross functional processes are deployed and adhered to
- Lead/support internal audits and supplier audits
- Lead the management of non‑conformance resolution and corrective actions with key stakeholders and process owners
- Lead/support Quality investigations
- Lead effective analysis of data with resulting themes and corrective actions resulting in cross functional continuous improvements
- Lead/support the facilitation of working groups ensuring deliverables are achieved and Learning from Experience (LfE) is captured and applied
- Drive and support requirements relating to certification activities
- Process Owner in assigned area of technical expertise
- Capable of leading and driving a detailed programme of work
- Use of Company computer systems and software as appropriate
- The ability to articulate and deliver Quality objectives
- Represent the department at Quality and cross functional reviews and liaise with the customer when required
- The ability to critique and tailor issues and ideas in written reports and presentations ensuring accuracy and clarity of meaning
- Responsible for providing supervision to Early Careers on rotation through Quality roles
Knowledge
- Understanding and application of ISO 9001/ EN9100 standards
- Subject Matter Expert (SME) own discipline within Quality and a broad understanding of other Quality related disciplines
- Understanding of Business Management Systems, Operational Framework and Operational Assurance process
- Knowledge of and experience of product safety
- Understanding the importance of cross functional integration across the Business Unit to achieve overall goals of the Function
- Export requirements knowledge (for example International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)) (where applicable)
Skills
- The ability to interpret specifications, procedures and contract requirements and cascade to others
- Lead facilitator of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodologies; Fishbone, 5 Why, relationship diagrams, six sigma etc. gathering and analysing evidence
- Effective action management and verification
- Effective stakeholder management (including with the customer)
Qualifications
- HNC or degree qualified in an appropriate technical discipline or equivalent experience
- Be a quality professional, at least lead auditor status or equivalent experience
