Job summary

Stantec is seeking an experienced Principal Protection & Control Engineer to lead HV protection and control design across UK projects. You will guide schemes from concept to detailed design, coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams and clients to deliver safe, reliable electrical solutions.

You will contribute to innovation through standardisation, tech assessments, and supplier collaborations while ensuring compliance with UK CDM regulations and industry best practices.

Qualifications

• Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Proven experience on distribution networks as a Protection & Control Design Engineer.
• Strong knowledge of protection systems, relays, CT/VT sizing, and protection studies.
• Experience producing AC/DC schematics and design documentation.
• Familiarity with UK standards and CDM regulations.
• Commitment to safety with risk identification and mitigation.
• ideally, National Grid processes/standards experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects from concept through FEED to detailed design for protection and control.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients on high voltage schemes up to 400 kV.
• Support construction and energisation, including commissioning and design reviews.
• Contribute to innovation, standardisation, and supplier engagements.
