Job summary

Just Eat Takeaway.com is seeking a senior leader to build customer-facing recommendation/ranking algorithms within the Customer department. This role focuses on the recommendations product, including home page ranking and recommendation systems.

You will work with data science and engineering to shape algorithmic approaches, define success metrics, and scale discovery practices. The work drives revenue, user satisfaction, and partner outcomes across a global platform.

About This Role

This is a critical role at the heart of an ambitious, customer-obsessed, world-leading technology company. This is a senior role to build customer facing recommendation/ranking algorithms within the Customer department. This specific role focuses on the recommendations product which includes our home page ranking and recommendation systems. It would suit someone who is passionate about solving customer problems and loves working with data, who has extensive experience working with engineering and data science on ML challenges and is eager for more. Algorithms are used to match customers to the right supply, guiding them to partners that will deliver a great experience and food they will love. They are used to shape demand to achieve operational/commercial goals and to optimise revenue by maximising spend and promoting sponsored restaurants and products. The work we do makes a tangible difference to our customers’ lives and to the success of our partners.

These are some of the key components to the position

• Define and own the long-term product vision, strategy, and multi-horizon roadmap for recommendation systems, aligning stakeholders across product, engineering, and commercial.
• Drive deep understanding of user behavior at scale, identifying systemic improvement opportunities through quantitative analysis, experimentation programs, and qualitative insight.
• Partner with data science and engineering leadership to shape algorithmic approaches and technical architecture, facilitating trade-off conversations, translating complex ML capabilities into product outcomes.
• Lead and scale product discovery practices across the team, setting standards for user research, competitive intelligence, and opportunity sizing.
• Own the KPI framework for recommendations, defining north star metrics, setting targets, and driving accountability across teams.
• Design and govern the A/B testing and experimentation strategy, establishing rigorous standards for hypothesis validation and ensuring learnings are systematically applied across the portfolio.
• Drive prioritisation and investment decisions across a complex backlog, influencing senior leadership and building organisational alignment around the product roadmap.

What will you bring to the team

• Extensive experience leading data-driven product development at scale, with deep domain expertise in ranking, recommendations, search, or personalisation in high-traffic consumer products.
• Strong technical fluency in ML/data science product development, with the ability to challenge and shape algorithmic approaches alongside senior data scientists and engineers.
• A track record of building and evolving experimentation and measurement frameworks that drive sustained business and customer impact.
• Proven ability to influence without authority across complex, matrixed organisations, aligning engineering, analytics, commercial, and leadership around a shared vision.
• Exceptional ability to translate ambiguous, large-scale problems into clear product strategies, backed by quantitative rigour and sharp business judgment.
• Experience mentoring and elevating product thinking across a team, and driving best-practice adoption in agile and data science-integrated ways of working.
