Job summary

Linxon is seeking a Lead Primary Engineer in Birmingham to lead the primary design within turnkey substation projects. You will coordinate with local and remote design teams and drive engineering activities from project start through As-Built, ensuring QA/QC and HSSE compliance.

You will engage with customers and suppliers, validate technical content, and contribute to design reviews and tender efforts as needed. English fluency is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or master's in electrical engineering or equivalent.
• Extensive experience in HV substation engineering for utilities.
• Knowledge of modern GIS and AIS substation technology.

Job Title: Lead Primary Engineer

Location: Birmingham, United Kingdom

Join Us! We are looking to secure the services of an experienced Lead Primary Engineer with a proven track record in substation engineering and project expertise relating to turnkey HV GIS/AIS substations.

You will be part of the Linxon Engineering Department and execute complex turnkey substation projects.

In this role you will provide the technical lead for the primary discipline in coordination with the remote Linxon design team, the overall project lead engineer and the project team.

You will ensure that technical tasks to the project related to primary discipline are cost effectively executed in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards and safety requirements.

You will collaborate during site activities with interface during construction, technical support to commissioning and start-up.

Key Areas of Responsibility (KARs)

• Technical lead of Linxon primary engineering team allocated to the project.
• Overall responsible for managing & leading all primary engineering activities from project start till the As-Built stage with strict adherence to Project Specifications & Linxon standards including QA/QC, HSSE & Integrity.
• Accountable for the submission on time and to quality of the primary design packages in line with the overall project schedule and in coordination with all the internal stakeholders.
• Monitor primary engineering cost, report risk & change management activities.
• Coordinate with Linxon engineering team (local & remote) of other disciplines for primary related interfaces.
• Technical lead, review and validation of the documentation, related to your discipline, issued by internal & external partners, sub-suppliers Completion of the relevant primary sections of the general project documentation (i.e. Design Intent Document). Ensuring all design changes are managed in accordance with the design change management process defined by the contract. Attending Design Review meetings (DRMs) and Hazard review meetings (HRMs) as required by Linxon project team. Participate in technical discussions with customer and suppliers, handle site queries and take necessary actions up to as-built documentation In case of tenders, prepare the RFQs, validate the technical content the offers provided by suppliers, provide your estimation of the budget for the resources to be allocated to primary scope.

Experience Required

• Bachelor or master's in electrical engineering or equivalent.
• Extensive experience in HV substation engineering for utilities.
• Knowledge of the modern GIS and AIS substation technology.

Other Position-Specific Characteristics

• Availability to travel 25 % of the time (domestic/international travel)
• Flexibility in working in an office and on a construction site.

Competencies/ Skills Required

• Result orientated team player with a proactive approach.
• Excellent in communication, to interact with external and internal parties at all levels in a multi-cultural environment.
• Expert knowledge in Substation primary design and engineering, Layouts, Grounding & Lightning design, Steel design inputs, transformers, HV & MV Switchgear systems, HV & MV cable calculations, earthing calculations.
• Strong in MS Office, knowledge in MicroStation and AutoCAD is required.
• Fluency in English – both written and spoken
