Job summary

SP Energy Networks in Glasgow is seeking a Lead Engineer – Power System Analysis (x2) to perform power system studies, assess network capacity and stability, and support grid code compliance.

The role requires extensive experience in power system analysis, strong communication skills, and Chartered Engineer status. The successful candidate will contribute to transmission planning and work in a hybrid, permanent position with a competitive salary of £63,200 to £79,000.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience in power system design, analysis, and the use of power system modelling software.
• Working knowledge of GB transmission planning and operational standards, including the SQSS and Grid Code.
• Knowledge of HVDC, power system harmonics, electromagnetic transient analysis, or control systems.

Responsibilities

• Conduct power system studies to assess transmission network compliance with planning and operational standards, including the SQSS and Grid Code.
• Develop, maintain, and validate transmission network analysis models and datasets.
• Support network planning and connection applications by evaluating options, resolving technical challenges, and identifying innovative engineering solutions.
• Liaise with customers and stakeholders on connection requirements, code compliance, voltage control, and quality of supply matters.
• Lead or contribute to complex projects involving emerging technologies, network performance investigations, and system disturbances.
• Participate in industry working groups to review and develop standards, codes, and engineering best practice.
• Provide specialist technical support and engineering leadership across SPEN.
• Contribute to strategic industry publications, system planning activities, and future network development initiatives.
