Job summary

To take a lead role in planning, co‑ordinating, delivering and evaluating the service provided to obstetric patients with pelvic health conditions on a day‑to‑day basis, and work closely with and support other Physiotherapy teams working with pelvic health conditions across UHDB/ LMNS.

To lead, plan and coordinate the education, training and supervision of the Physiotherapists, support workers and students working within the speciality.

To provide advanced physiotherapy assessment and treatment to patients with complex needs associated to the speciality.

To represent the Physiotherapy service to the wider UHDB women's health multi‑disciplinary team as well as being the link to the Therapy managers, internal and external stakeholders across UHDB defined ICBs and LMNS structures.

To ensure that the pelvic health service contributes appropriately to speciality KPIs, and to support the PPHS to achieve KPIs that relate to pelvic health service at UHDB.

Main duties of the job

Determine clinical diagnosis and physiotherapy treatment indicated, and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.

Accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, in and outpatients, and organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.

Support day‑to‑day management (reviewing performance and progress, allocation and checking of work) and training of Physiotherapy staff, ensuring competence in carrying out duties with patients with pelvic health problems.

Ensure that service targets are met and facilitated on a daily basis, and coordinate the service with other Physiotherapy colleagues to ensure the provision of a prioritised service during pressure times due to workload or staffing difficulties.

Provide support, guidance, training and evaluation of qualified and unqualified staff, to ensure their structured career progression.

Undertake and coordinate evidence‑based audit and research projects to further own and team's clinical practice. Lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or service protocols.

Work as part of the MDT to provide advice and deliver a holistic patient‑centred approach to care in an inpatient and outpatient capacity.

Qualifications
Education
  • Physiotherapy qualification – BSc or postgraduate diploma in physiotherapy (or equivalent qualification)
  • Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Evidence of relevant continued professional development to advanced level in clinical area
Experience
  • Experience within obstetric Physiotherapy, working with in‑patients and out‑patients
  • Knowledge and skills in assessment and treatment of a wide range of complex acute and chronic obstetric clinical presentations
  • Skills and practice in mentoring and supervision
  • Experience in leadership and team management including development and management of performance and staff appraisal (desirable)
  • Clinical audit or research involvement (desirable)
  • Understanding of the strategic direction of the LMNS and the role of pelvic health within that (desirable)
Skills
  • Good analytical skills with capability to analyse data from varying sources to make informed decisions
  • Excellent time‑management skills with ability to reprioritise
  • Ability to work without supervision, under pressure and to tight and often changing timescales

Salary: £47,810 to £54,710 a year pro rata pa
