Job summary

NHS Harefield Hospital is seeking a Lead Pharmacy Technician, Patient Services, to deputise for the Lead during their absence and lead the pharmacy team in the dispensary.

You will assist with rota planning, train Pre-registration Pharmacy Technicians and Trainee Pharmacists, manage inventory, undertake daily cycle counts, and ensure accurate dispensing, labeling and patient counselling.

Responsibilities

• Deputise for the Lead Pharmacy Technician in their absence.
• Assist in rota planning for senior rotational pharmacy assistants and pharmacy assistants in stores.
• Support and assist in the training of Pre-registration Pharmacy Technicians and Trainee Pharmacists whilst on rotation in the dispensary.
• Be responsible for the continuing professional development and overall performance of Pharmacy Assistants on rotation in the dispensary, including CPD drug teaching sessions.
• Ensure that general dispensing duties: checking to-follow prescriptions and posting out of medication are carried out.
• Ensure adequate sundries are kept and ordered when needed.
• Train others in how to order in their absence.
• Undertake daily cycle counts, verify stock quantities and expiry dates, and maintain stock records in the stock management system.
• Ensure stock control for IVIG medications.
• Ensure appropriate stock control of medical gases.
• Manage the overall Pharmacy inventory, investigate and resolve discrepancies.
• Handle card transactions for prescription charges (NHS and Private).
• Book out items taken out of hours to the appropriate Directorate on the Epic system.
• Ensure intubation boxes and resuscitation trays are prepared and available on hand and in date.
