Job summary

Arup is recruiting a Senior Track Engineer to lead design production for major rail projects in Scotland and across the UK. You will determine track design requirements, develop effective solutions, and provide technical input across multiple rail schemes, with responsibility for mentoring and delivering safe, high-quality outcomes.

You will manage design risk, coordinate interfaces, and contribute to industry standards while collaborating with clients and partners across the North team.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree or equivalent qualification with Chartered status or progression toward professional certification.
• Experience producing and checking Permanent Way feasibility, schemes and detailed designs.
• Ability to lead collaborative teams and coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces.
• Understanding of industry tools used in track design and common data environments.
• Experience as CRE on Network Rail projects is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead design production and delivery for medium and large projects, including checks of drawings, calculations, and reports.
• Coordinate interfaces with other disciplines and external parties; ensure client requirements are understood.
• Mentor and develop colleagues in Scotland and across the UK, including apprentices and graduates.
• Identify, eliminate and mitigate design risk; support CDM designer's risk assessments and safety processes.
• Collaborate with the wider North team, including presence in Manchester and York, and interact with technical leads.
