Job summary

Vertiv in Redhill, United Kingdom is seeking a Metallurgist Subject Matter Expert to provide technical leadership in materials engineering and performance within High Density Liquid Cooling. The role defines material standards and guides engineering decisions across design, manufacture, validation, and operations.

You will focus on stainless steels, copper, aluminium alloys, and polymer-based materials, leading standardisation and risk reduction in a cross-functional team.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in materials engineering, metallurgy, or related discipline in industrial settings.
• Strong expertise in material selection for stainless steels, copper, aluminium, and corrosion-resistant alloys.
• Deep understanding of corrosion mechanisms and material degradation.
• Knowledge of material standards and specifications (ASTM, ASME, EN, ISO).
• Experience in welding metallurgy and impact of fabrication on material integrity.

Responsibilities

• Act as the technical authority for materials engineering and metallurgical performance across products and projects.
• Define and improve material standards, specs, and approved material lists.
• Lead material selection and compatibility decisions (corrosion, fluid chemistry).
• Provide technical oversight of design, manufacturing, and quality decisions related to materials.
• Support investigations into failures and degradation mechanisms.
• Guide validation and testing strategies for material suitability, durability, reliability.
• Engage with suppliers and manufacturing partners to align on specs and processing controls.
• Drive standardisation and capability development across multidisciplinary teams.
