Job Title: Lead Mechanical Fitter/Engineer

Location: Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital, Lancashire

Contract: Permanent 40 hrs/week

Salary - up to 40k

Overview

We're looking for a Lead Mechanical Fitter/Engineer to join the onsite facilities team at Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital. This is a key role responsible for maintaining and repairing mechanical building services, ensuring compliance with regulations and delivering a safe and reliable environment for patients and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Planned and reactive maintenance of mechanical systems, plant, and equipment.
  • Diagnose faults, carry out repairs, and assist with minor installation/adaptation works.
  • Maintain records, complete documentation, and comply with safety and infection control standards.
  • Provide technical support on steam, heating, water, and HVAC systems.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, contractors, and hospital staff to minimise disruption.
  • Take part in callout rota (after qualifying period).
  • Contribute to lifecycle planning and equipment reliability improvements.
Skills & Experience
  • NVQ Level 3 in Maintenance Services (or equivalent).
  • Experience in a maintenance environment, ideally within healthcare.
  • Competence with AHUs, FCUs, LTHW, pumps, valves, chilled & potable water, and water hygiene systems.
  • Pipe fitting and plumbing experience (desirable).
  • Authorised Person - Mechanical Systems.
  • Steam systems experience (advantageous).
