Job summary

Babcock International Group in Plymouth seeks a Principal Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to lead the commissioning of mechanical systems on Vanguard Class submarines at Devonport. The role combines technical expertise, leadership and regulatory compliance to ensure safe delivery of critical submarine systems.

Qualifications

• Significant experience commissioning, operating and maintaining mechanical systems in high-hazard or regulated industries.
• Knowledge of control of work processes, safe release of systems and safe systems of work.
• Experience managing multiple complex commissioning packages in demanding environments.
• Strong leadership, planning, organisational and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning and delivery of commissioning, testing and setting-to-work for nuclear submarine mechanical systems.
• Prepare and authorise test documentation to support project delivery.
• Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with safe systems of work and regulatory requirements.
• Manage and develop mechanical commissioning teams, supporting capability growth and resource planning.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to resolve complex technical challenges and deliver commissioning outcomes.
