Job summary

Macstaff is seeking an experienced Flood Risk Consultant for Bath/Bradford-on-Avon. The role combines technical delivery with client ownership across flood risk, hydrology and water environment projects.

Based in Bath area with flexible hybrid working, you will lead FRA, drainage strategies, and environmental permitting, while developing the in-house team and contributing to growth of the water environment capability.

Qualifications

• Strong professional experience within flood risk, hydrology or water environment consultancy.
• Degree or postgraduate qualification relevant to flood risk/hydrology.
• Experience delivering hydrological and flood risk elements of multidisciplinary projects.
• Knowledge of Flood Risk Assessments, drainage/SuDS and related planning requirements.
• Strong client-facing and stakeholder-management skills.
• Experience managing projects, budgets, programmes and deliverables.
• Ability to lead, support and develop other consultants.
• Excellent reporting and communication skills.
• Commercial judgement and pragmatic approach to environmental risk.
• Chartered status such as CWEM or similar is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Leading Flood Risk Assessments, hydrological assessments and flood risk modelling.
• Delivering drainage strategies, SuDS design, WFD assessments and ES chapters.
• Supporting water quality, sediment quality, water resources and resilience projects.
• Leading FRAP and wider environmental permitting work.
• Providing input into flood preparedness strategies.
• Managing project scope, fees, programmes, resources, risk, quality and profitability.
• Leading client meetings, workshops and technical reviews.
• Coordinating with planning authorities and regulators.
• Advising on planning, permitting, environmental risk and mitigation.
• Managing and developing the in-house environment team.
• Supporting proposals, tenders and key client accounts.
• Shaping growth of the water environment and flood risk capability.
