Job summary

Intelance is seeking a freelance Lead Enterprise Architect to run a fixed-scope enterprise architecture review for a large UK professional services firm and to stay on as the firm’s interim architect if the client takes the follow-on work. The review runs over four to six weeks from November 2026 and needs around 18 days, with an optional follow-on of two days per week for eight weeks.

The role is mainly remote within the UK, with some days at client offices in England.

Qualifications

• Lead or head enterprise architecture in a UK law firm or large professional services firm (~1,000+ people).
• Built architecture function, design authority or technology decision forum from scratch.
• Can present costed options papers to COO/board with confidence.
• Independent of software vendors and not currently selling to the client.

Responsibilities

• Lead the review from first meeting to final presentation as the client’s day-to-day contact.
• Conduct 8–10 one-hour conversations with heads of applications, IT operations, data, client solutions and project office.
• Create a single integrated view of the technology estate and data flows.
• Trace recent technology decisions to current owners.
• Write a prioritized risk report and three costed options.
• Present findings to the COO with Intelance’s engagement partner.
• If follow-on occurs, act as interim architect two days a week and set up a technology decision forum.
