Job summary

Wembley High Technology College in London is seeking an experienced Lead Practitioner in English to strengthen teaching quality across the department. You will develop high‑quality resources, mentor trainee teachers, and embed evidence‑informed practices, with a focus on KS3–5 and opportunities to lead on co‑curricular English activities.

This role offers professional development through the Training School Hub and opportunities to influence school‑wide practice.

Qualifications

A good degree in English, or a strongly related discipline.
Teaching experience through KS3-5.
Willingness to develop expertise in IB teaching and IB professional development.
Experience delivering GCSE and A-Level outcomes with strong value-added results.
Track record of improving student achievement through collaboration with colleagues and parents.
Experience of departmental line management.
A passion for English and willingness to lead engagement beyond the classroom.
Strong work ethic and high levels of personal organisation.

Responsibilities

Foster, by example, a spirit of academic inquiry and curiosity.
Evaluate and implement the most effective teaching strategies to maximise subject learning.
Meet with your line manager to discuss targets and strategies for the department.
Review public examination results and progress with the Headteacher.
Coordinate assessments across all year groups and track student progress.
Lead six-week cycle analysis to impact attainment within the department.
Champion co-curricular activities and enrichment in English.
Ensure safeguarding and DBS requirements are followed by all staff.
