What you'll be doing

The Earthing and LV Lead Engineer role is in Engineering Design and Standards, which sits within Process and Technology. As a Lead Engineer your focus will be to provide SPENs Transmission and Distribution (T&D) licenses with technical support and steer outputs through to senior management, peers and other operational units for your area of your specialism.

You will lead the development and implementation of equipment specifications for Earthing and LV Service Positions to ensure legal & licence compliance.

  • Perform all duties with a strong emphasis on health, safety, quality and environmental matters.
  • Lead the preparation of Earthing and LV technical specifications and guidance to ensure SPEN are compliant with statutory legislation.
  • Actively engage with T&D equipment suppliers through engineering specification development, tendering processes and the approval of system assets.
  • Lead communication with wider business stakeholders on the introduction of new plant, specifications and processes.
  • Support T&D staff in relation to Earthing and LV Service Position related inquiries, including providing support to the Earthing Steering Group (including HV & LV sub-groups) and LV Asset Stewardship Group.
  • Maintain an awareness of advances in technology, equipment and best practice and steer sustainable, innovative solutions across the Iberdrola Group.
  • Participate and lead, as required, in Iberdrola global working groups such as INS and best practice forums.
  • Represent SPEN interests at external national and industry bodies such as ENA, National Grid, BSI, CIGRE and the IET.

The candidate should ideally have experience gained through an operational and technical engineering role combined with knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Earthing at all voltage levels across T&D.
  • LV service positions.
  • Earthing and LV equipment standards & specifications.
  • Network design philosophy & policy.
  • T&D Network operations and Safety Rules.
  • Asset Failure Investigation and reporting.
  • Legal & licence obligations and conditions.
  • Purchasing policy & legal obligations.
  • Ability to devise solutions to complex problems & challenges.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical & non-technical audiences, verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication & negotiation skills.
