Mortgage Advice Bureau is seeking an experienced Lead Engineer to guide a cross‑functional squad and shape the future of AI‑assisted development. You will balance hands‑on engineering with people leadership in a hybrid Derby‑based role, delivering secure, scalable software while mentoring engineers.

Working with Developers, Product Owners and stakeholders, you will drive technical direction, governance and continuous improvement, ensuring quality and agility across the team.

Qualificações

• Strong technical expertise in C# and .NET Core
• Strong experience with Angular
• Experience designing and developing solutions using PostgreSQL
• Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools
• Ability to write clear, structured and testable technical specifications
• Strong code review skills and ability to make informed technical decisions
• Experience leading technical initiatives and driving engineering improvements
• Excellent communication, facilitation and stakeholder management skills
• Scrum Master certifications welcomed but not essential

• Facilitate Agile ceremonies and remove blockers to maintain momentum.
• Monitor delivery metrics and use data for continuous improvement.
• Support Product Owners with backlog management and prioritisation.
• Champion Agile ways of working and continual learning

About the Role

As a Lead Engineer, you'll be responsible for the performance, wellbeing and delivery of your squad while continuing to contribute technically across our technology stack.

Working closely with Developers, Product Owners and stakeholders across Technology, you'll provide technical leadership, support team development and help drive continuous improvement across engineering practices. You'll play an important role in shaping how AI-assisted and agentic development capabilities are adopted within the team, ensuring innovation is balanced with quality, governance and security.

What You'll Be Doing

• Providing technical leadership and architectural guidance across your squad.

• Facilitating Agile ceremonies including stand‑ups, sprint planning, refinement sessions and retrospectives.
• Removing blockers and helping the team maintain delivery momentum.
• Monitoring delivery metrics and using data to drive continuous improvement.
• Supporting Product Owners with backlog management and prioritisation.
• Championing Agile ways of working and encouraging continual learning and improvement.

What We’re Looking For

We're looking for a collaborative and technically strong engineering leader who enjoys developing both software and people.

You’ll be comfortable providing technical direction, working across multiple stakeholders and helping teams navigate complex challenges. You’ll have a passion for engineering excellence, a growth mindset and the ability to balance strategic thinking with hands‑on delivery.

You’ll Bring

• Strong technical expertise in C# and .NET Core development.
• Strong experience working with Angular.
• Experience designing and developing solutions using PostgreSQL.
• Experience working with containerisation technologies such as Docker.
• Hands‑on experience using, or a genuine interest in, AI-assisted development tools and emerging engineering practices.
• The ability to write clear, structured and testable technical specifications.
• Strong code review skills and the ability to make informed technical decisions.
• Experience leading technical initiatives and driving engineering improvements.
• Excellent communication, facilitation and stakeholder management skills.
• Proven experience coaching and developing engineers at different stages of their careers.
• A strong understanding of Agile and Scrum principles.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines or cloud technologies would be advantageous.
• Experience coordinating work across multiple repositories would be beneficial.
• Scrum Master certifications are welcomed but not essential.
• Experience contributing to technical strategy and cross‑team collaboration would be advantageous.
• Significant software development experience, including previous leadership, mentoring or people management responsibilities.
